The Mermaid Welcomes Streets of London Charity Night Walk
24th July 2023

The Mermaid London will act as the meeting point and destination for fundraisers tackling homelessness in the city.

Streets of London, a charity which funds specialist support for people who are homeless in London, has announced details of its 2023 Night Walk, with The Mermaid London acting as the start and finish point for the 10-mile starlit summer trek on Saturday, 15th July.

Dozens of fundraisers will take to the streets of central London to raise vital funds and awareness for the homelessness projects the charity supports. Team members from The Mermaid London will also be participating in the Night Walk, embarking on their own fundraising mission to further support the charity’s work and demonstrate their individual commitment to the cause – click here to sponsor the team.

The Mermaid London, the events space located on the banks of the River Thames at Blackfriars, will act as the meeting point for the Night Walk and in doing so, continues in its commitment to supporting the local charity as well as the wider local community.

This follows the venue’s announcement earlier this year of its official support for Streets of London by pledging to donate £1 per day delegate booking in 2023, £5 for every festive booking, and offering the large Central London space for upcoming charity events.

What does the Night Walk entail?

Night walkers are set to meet at The Mermaid London on Saturday 15th July where they’ll be checked in, provided with a Streets of London t-shirt to walk, and will set off in groups of 2-6 people at staggered intervals. The route will take between 2.5 – 4 hours (depending on walking speed), meaning fundraisers will set off in daylight, experience the stunning city sunset at 9.12pm, and finish the walk in the dark for the full Night Walk experience.

The 10-mile route, which starts at The Mermaid London, loops back at 6.5 miles, and finishes at the venue, will take in many of Central London’s best-known sights, including Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, The Gherkin, and The Shard.

Why the Night Walk?

Alicia Duncan, Director, The Mermaid London, said: “We’re really excited to be a part of this wonderful charity event and we can’t wait to open our doors to fundraisers, organisers, and families who are giving up their time to raise awareness and funds for Streets of London.

“Participants are welcome to use our facilities and water stations before, during, and after the event, and we will also be exclusively offering our River Rooms for the evening. With panoramic views of the River Thames and Blackfriars Bridge, these rooms are the perfect location for friends and family to view and cheer on their loved ones as they take to the streets below.

“As a multipurpose, central London meeting space, we felt it was only right to offer our venue for the 2023 Night Walk, acting as Blackfriars’ beacon of hope not just for those who are walking in the dark, but for those living on the streets. Meetings are all about fostering human connection, and we feel its our duty to #MakeMeetingsMatter in 2023 and beyond.”
