Event Trends

The Mermaid London stands out as one of the capital’s most versatile venues, based on the wealth of different event spaces available to hire. With its highly adaptable rooms and creative in-house team, planners have the scope to create events without limitations and restrictions for their guests. Yet, in a constantly evolving industry, it is vital to stay ahead of the game and ensure that The Mermaid London continues to remain receptive to emerging trends.

In 2017, White Light became the venue’s in-house technical production partner and today we would like to share the latest trends we have identified, which are already making a significant impact in the events industry in 2019.

Fully Utilise All That The Venue Has To Offer

Many organisers are not content with their events being confined to just one or two spaces. They seek to transform their chosen venues in keeping with their brand, so the ability to occupy multiple spaces allows for a fully rounded experience. At The Mermaid London, a range of multi-space hire options are available, to enable the creation of an end-to-end guest journey. Total flexibility at the venue also gives clients the potential to create different zones, each with distinct looks and feels.

High-impact branding is always a priority and The Mermaid London is in a unique position to offer one of the City’s most comprehensive selections of brandable spaces, all under one roof. Displaying digital content including logos, itineraries, menus, directional signage and seating plans, can reduce costs for printed artwork and serve to tell your brand story in a more immersive way.

Flexibility is the key to delivering successful events and the blank-canvas nature of the rooms means that a broad variety of different styles and formats can be accommodated, including conference, collaborative, panel and round table. Newgate can be utilised as a large single space or separate breakout rooms, while the 120sqm Queenhithe creates opportunities to reveal different sections of the space gradually as events progress.

In January 2019, EventsEvents, organised by GCN Events, maximised the full potential of Mermaid London as a venue, encompassing four different summits for events professionals, all running concurrently in one day.

AV Technology That Allows Flexibility

We have noticed an increasing demand for events to offer communication solutions beyond the physical parameters of one space. This usually involves an event being shared via multiple social media platforms, or even streamed live from the Auditorium to other parts of the venue, quickly and efficiently.

While planners seek to use as many spaces within a building as possible, we must ensure that each of the spaces are readily equipped to accommodate all nature of requirements. By having the latest technology in place, these spaces become entirely flexible and can be configured to suit a particular event’s exact specification.

With this in mind, we have created a vast media networking solution for transmission of audio throughout The Mermaid London. We have also installed a bespoke lighting rig in the Auditorium, including LED fixtures, moving lights and a new house lighting system; we have also upgraded our projectors to laser for higher-consistency brightness and clarity.

The Rise Of FinTech

With the UK experiencing a boom in the growth of its FinTech industry, London is fast becoming a hub for flagship events in this market. In November 2018, The Mermaid London was the venue of choice for CoinGeek – a leading BitcoinSV and cryptocurrency news portal, who regularly host global conferences to share the latest insights and developments within the industry.

The CoinGeekWeek Conference ran over three days and utilised a full venue takeover, to accommodate a packed itinerary of presentations, talks, debates and Q&A’s with industry leaders. After the conference, speakers and media convened in the Newgate Suite for interviews and wrap-up discussions.

Being the only 600-seated auditorium in the City of London, Mermaid London ticks many boxes for FinTech event organisers, due to its location, its extensive branding capabilities, and versatile blank-canvas spaces. As such, we are seeing increasing interest from this dynamic sector.
